Who We Are
Texoma Alliance to Stop Abuse (TASA) is dedicated to ending family violence and sexual assault in Wilbarger, Hardeman, and Foard counties. We are accomplishing this goal by providing free and confidential services to survivors, educating the public about family violence, and by providing a Battering Intervention and Prevention Program (BIPP) for offenders.
We need your help to keep up this important work!
TASA was started in loving memory of five-year old Kati Earnest who died at the hands of her mother's abuser. We began operations in September of 2013 with the opening of our BIPP. Since then over one-hundred men have participated in our twenty-seven week course that is aimed at reorienting the thinking and behavior of men who abuse. Our program uses a nationally recognized curriculum that has proven successful for over two decades. This program is bearing fruit in the form of safer families where violence and abuse are no longer the norm.
TASA’s services fill a critical gap in our community- none of our local law enforcement agencies receive funding to employ a victim advocate. Frequently, after a violent event, victims are left traumatized and have nowhere to turn for support. TASA bridges this gap by working hand-in-hand with law enforcement agencies to provide victim assistance services within twenty-four hours of a family violence crime being reported. These services include safety planning, counseling, legal advocacy, court accompaniment, transportation to emergency shelter + SANE exams, and limited financial support to help victims begin a new life free from abuse.
In 2018, TASA helped create the first ever Domestic Violence High Risk Team (DVHRT) in the Texoma area. This team, which seeks to provide effective interventions for high-risk domestic violence victims, is composed of prosecutors, law enforcement, advocates, and shelter representatives. Our coordinated approach has been so impactful, it has been highlighted in two documentaries, bringing national attention to the work being done right here in our rural community.
We have reached thousands of community members through education and outreach. Our advocates provide presentations over healthy relationships to students in area schools, spread awareness about agency services, speak to parents about the impact of DV on children, provided training to cosmetology professionals on how to recognize, respond, and refer when they suspect their client may be a victim of abuse. We hold annual events to expose the abuse that hides in darkness, raising awareness and empowering change.
Your gift changes lives. Stand with survivors today.
