Building Freedom, One Ramp at a Time

The Texas Ramp Project (TRP) gives the gift of mobility and independence by providing ramps at no cost to low-income older adults and people with disabilities. Referred by local health care providers, each client receives a custom-built ramp constructed by dedicated all-volunteer crews.

Since 1985, TRP has built more than 30,000 ramps across Texas. Imagine them laid end-to-end — they’d stretch 139 miles, farther than the drive from Dallas to Waco! Behind those numbers are thousands of stories of renewed freedom, dignity, and safety.

In 2024 alone, volunteers built 2,800 ramps statewide, including 534 ramps in the North Texas Region (NTX).

  • A grandmother can safely step outside to visit with neighbors.

  • A veteran gains the freedom to get to his medical appointments.

  • An elderly spouse no longer risks injury trying to help her partner navigate steps.

The benefits ripple beyond the clients: caregivers are relieved, families feel secure, and communities grow stronger knowing their most vulnerable members are supported.

And there’s room for you in this story. TRP welcomes volunteers of all skill levels — no construction experience required! If you’re ready to make an immediate, life-changing impact, join us at www.texasramps.org and click “Volunteer.”

Together, we’re building more than ramps. We’re building independence, dignity, and hope.
