Burkburnett Seniors Need You

The Burkburnett Meals on Wheels program serves hot lunch meals to approximately 200 seniors and disabled individuals 5 days each week. This is a 21% increase from this time last year. The majority of these live alone at or below poverty level with limited access to transportation. Your donation can help us provide meals to serve vulnerable seniors in Burkburnett and take care of those who once took care of us.

You'd be helping provide more than a meal

For many participants, "Meals on Wheels is literally the difference between remaining in their own homes and needing to relocate to a nursing facility. The nutritious meal, friendly visit and safety check help them cope with three of the biggest threats of aging: hunger, isolation and loss of independence. Research proves that when seniors have the right support, they gain greater quality of life, need fewer hospital stays and live longer." (Source: Hunger in Older Adults)

How you can help

Only part of Burkburnett's Meals on Wheels expenses are subsidized by Health and Human Services. The rest of our costs must be raised through donations, grants, and fundraising. The after effects of COVID-19, the need is STILL growing in our community,  so we need extra help to keep growing and not have a waiting list. Baby boomers are reaching retirement age and increasing in need for a meal.  By donating, YOU can be a hero to Burkburnett seniors who need some extra help at this point in their lives. Every donation--no matter how small--helps!

Ways you can help?

  1. Donate through Texoma Gives.  Share the message and the need.
  2. Consider being a member of our Burkburnett Hunger Hero's and donating monthly or do a one-time donation any day of the year.
  3. Stop by the Burkburnett Senior Citizens Center the day of Texoma Gives and drop off a donation.
  4. Provide a Matching Gift to double the impact of donations.

Thank you for helping to feed the hungry in our community.
