Prepping the Past to Prepare for the Future
The Whiteside Museum of Natural History is in search of funding to assist in the acquisition of additional microscope equipment for the WMNH Fossil Preparation Laboratory as well as funding to upgrade current donated equipment that needs to be replaced due to age and use. This equipment is essential to the fossil preparation process and to the WMNH paleontologists preparing the world class fossils found in Seymour, Texas. This equipment will be used for both fossil preparation and education programs, the latter of which will be made available to schools, students, and the general public.
After discovery in the field, each specimen undergoes meticulous preparation to ensure it can be safely studied, handled, and exhibited. These fossils play a dual role: they are key to ongoing scientific research and are also essential in our educational efforts, helping us engage students, families, and curious minds of all ages. As a non-profit institution, we rely on the generosity of supporters to keep this work going. Your donation helps us purchase the tools and materials needed to prepare fossils for classrooms, exhibits, and scientists alike, ensuring these important fossils continue to inform, inspire, and educate for generations to come.
Over the past decade, your generous donations have been instrumental in supporting the longevity of The Whiteside Museum of Natural History. No contribution is too small - every dollar makes a difference as we work to provide a world-class museum experience.
Who We Are
The Whiteside Museum of Natural History (WMNH) was established as a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation in December of 2013 due to the herculean philanthropic efforts of Judge Clyde E. Whiteside. As a lifelong mission to create a natural history museum for Seymour based on the incredible paleontological significance of Seymour and Baylor County, Judge Whiteside financed the museum’s development. Opening officially on June 7th, 2014, WMNH to date has enjoyed approximately 56,000 visitors, including 12,000 school children engaged in cost-free, school-sponsored visits. WMNH provides all visitors with an interactive glimpse into the natural world and more specifically the ancient life that once inhabited North Texas. With the success of active paleontological excavations near Seymour, WMNH proudly promotes the advancement of science education through a world-class, fully interactive paleontology preparation laboratory, interactive paleontology exhibits, and outreach programming. WMNH strives to reach out to the diverse communities and groups of Seymour and beyond and retains a successful volunteer program that currently holds approximately 30 active members. The WMNH volunteer program also provides the senior citizen demographic with healthy and active community service opportunities.
